Tell us about yourself.

My artistic inclinations and gifts were evident early in life and were affirmed when I was voted “Most Artistic” in fifth grade. As a child, teen, and young man, I constantly created, but was encouraged to pursue business as a vocation. So, I chose the most creative aspect of business I could find: Marketing. In my thirties, life took an unexpected turn when I came to St. Louis to go to seminary. That environment and the way Christian theology affirms beauty and creative vocations encouraged me to more purposefully pursue art, at least as an avocation. I was also providentially given more and more artistic commissions at that time. After graduation and through many vocational twists and turns, I finally affirmed my artistic inclinations and gifts and began pursuing them more purposefully. I am now a thankful and flourishing full-time artist.

Tell us about your process and inspiration.

My process revolves around my clients’ stories and values. Through relationship, we agree on a design that expresses these things in a unique, beautiful, and dimensional wood wall sculpture that fits their budget and timetable. This care flows - or is “inspired” - by Christ’s incredibly personal and gracious care for me as my Redeemer and Caretaker along with His matchless artistry and generosity as a Creator.

What part of the creative process gives you the most joy?

The moment I finish a piece and look at it for the first time can be magical. In that moment of joy, I also excitedly anticipate my client’s joy in seeing the piece for the first time… and this brings me joy, too!

What’s your favorite food? Movie? Music?

Food in a seaside setting: fried grouper sandwich with fresh tartar sauce on a lightly browned bun, fresh-cut fries, and an ice cold beer.

Food in a non-seaside setting: thick, medium-well cheeseburger with fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion, fresh-cut fries, and a Guinness.

Movie: It’s a Wonderful Life - the black and white version, of course.

Music: I usually listen to Sirius XM in my studio and bounce between the 80s, contemporary jazz, and the spa channel.
